A 33-year-old Missouri man died after becoming entrapped in a hot tub at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort in Nassau, Bahamas.

John Van Hoy Jr. of Liberty, Mo., was vacationing with his fiancée in December when he became stuck to a drain while soaking in the tub, according to Brais & Brais, attorneys retained by the victim’s family.

His fiancée called for help, and a number of other guests tried unsuccessfully to pull him free, the law firm stated, adding it was unknown whether the drain cover was missing or broken.

No one from the resort’s staff helped to free Van Hoy, and employees did not attempt CPR, according to Brais & Brais. Parent company Sandals Resorts declined to comment.
