KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Rescue Crews have freed a 3-year-old girl's arm from a pool drainage pipe.
According to officials, the girl was swimming inside the pool at the Key Colony Condominiums located at 235 Crandon Boulevard, when her arm got sucked into the pool drain. "Bystanders tell us that she was playing in the pool with her mom, it's not like there was a lack of supervision or anything like that, mom was there, child was in the pool. It appears to be a freak accident at this time," said Miami Fire Rescue Captain Pete Gomez. "These kinds of things have a tendency to happen nationwide, today, it just so happened here."
Crews drained some of the water from the pool for the girl's safety and to allow them to work. "I'll tell you what, luckily, for her that this suction pipe was at a high level so her head wasn't under water," said Gomez. "We still went ahead and drained about 2 feet of water, so that we could make it easier for us to work in and make sure she wasn't submerged in any way, shape or form."
Rescue Crews used drills to break the concrete around the pipe until they were able to free the 3-year-old. Air Rescue transported her to Jackson Memorial Hospital in stable condition with the drainage pipe still wrapped around her arm.
Officials said during the whole ordeal, the young girl was talking and being very strong.
