Abbey’s Hope reminds parents to be vigilant during spring break

Edina, MN- April 15, 2014- The abnormally long winter and rare sporadic nice days this spring continue sending Minnesotans to warmer climates. Abbey's Hope Charitable Foundation would like to remind parents to be vigilant near pools, spas and open bodies of water when they vacation.

"With spring break season here, families in the Midwest continue to escape the lingering cold for better climates where kids can swim," said Katey Taylor, co-founder of Abbey's Hope and mother to Abbey Taylor who died of complications from injuries due to an improperly maintained pool drain.

Learn to save a life this winter

Minneapolis - January 27, 2014- Abbey's Hope Charitable Foundation, a Minnesota-based non-profit organization dedicated to spreading pool and spa safety awareness, is using the winter months to promote Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) education.

Cardiac arrests are more common that most people assume, and they can happen at anytime and any place, including public or private pools due to drowning. There are approximately 383,000 cardiac arrests each year, and 88% of them happen at home. Why risk being ill prepared if a tragic accident happened to someone right in front of your eyes?

Pool Safety Tips

  • Use the Water Watchdog System to make sure children are always closely supervised in the pool area.

  • Remind kids to stay away from pool and hot tub drains.

  • Never dive into water less than 9 feet deep.
