Recreational Boating Fatalities Still Major Summer Concern
Minneapolis, MN (July 15, 2014)- If you are heading to one of Minnesota's many lakes and rivers this summer, you'll be joining thousands of other residents taking advantage of the idyllic Minnesota summers. The enjoyment, however, is not without risk. Far too many Minnesotans drown each year because they didn't know or ignored basic boating safety tips.
Each year, an average of 700 people die in boating-related accidents nationally and nearly 80% of those victims were not wearing a life jacket. Last year, 13 Minnesotans died in recreational boating accidents.
Minneapolis Non-profit tries to break Guinness World Record
Edina, MINN- (June 12, 2014) - For the second year in a row, Abbey's Hope Charitable Foundation is joining forces with leading water safety organizations around the globe to host the World's Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL). On Friday, June 20th at 10:00am CST at the Edina Aquatic Center, the Foundation will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest single-venue swim lesson.
Waterparks, pools and aquatic facilities will hold a basic, 30-minute swimming lesson to build awareness and demonstrate the importance of teaching children to swim in order to help prevent drowning. The lesson will cover basic swim strokes, learning how to stay in, on and around water, drain entrapment prevention and the importance of adult supervision when swimming.
Abbey’s Hope Participates in Record-Breaking Attempt at Life-Saving Event

Abbey's Hope, teamed up with other industry leaders around the globe to host the event for the second year in a row and promote Swimming Lesson Saves Lives.
Minnesota drownings decline by 11 fatalities in 2013
Minneapolis, MN- May 15, 2014- There were 29 drowning deaths in Minnesota in 2013, down from 40 drownings in 2012. While the decrease in drownings in encouraging, Abbey's Hope Charitable Foundation would like to remind Minnesotans that all drownings are preventable. May is Drowning Prevention and Water Safety Month, which provides an ideal opportunity for media outlets to remind Minnesotans about the measures they can take to help prevent the preventable during the summer months ahead.
